Soccer and Field Hockey Lead Fall Sports in Wins | WPI Connection

The fall WPI athletics teams are off to an outstanding start. Men?s Soccer and Field Hockey have combined to win 11 games already, with each team losing only one game so far. Volleyball rallied last weekend to defeat Wellesley College for the first time since 1987?a span of 27 straight matches, and Football defeated Becker College to earn its first win of 2011.

A busy Homecoming week is capped off on Saturday by several home contests. Football looks to keep the Transit Trophy in Worcester when they host RPI at 1 p.m. Volleyball takes on Westfield State University at 3 p.m., while Men?s Soccer entertains MIT at 5 p.m. Additionally, Cross Country is in the Worcester City Meet (along with its alumni) at Moore State Park, while Crew hosts its? annual Alumni Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond.??

Also, congratulations to the 29th induction class of the WPI Athletic Hall of Fame. The new class will be inducted Friday as part of Homecoming Weekend. The inductees include Kim (Cloutier) Villa ?90 ? Field Hockey; Miguel A. Concepcion ?05 ? Football and Track and Field; Michele (Giard) Hanly ?82 ? Field Hockey, Basketball and Softball; Jeffrey B. Horowitz ?85 ? Wrestling; John Maxouris ?76 ? Soccer; Matthew Musiak ?04 and MS ?06 ? Swimming and Diving; and Matt Wassel ?95 ? Wrestling and Football.
